Bob Schultz is a journalist and writer by profession. These articles are part of a larger, privately pubished document entitled The Germans: Geh Mit Ins Texas that traces his family history in the context of German settlement in Texas from 1842 through about 1880. The original, complete document is not available, but Bob has kindly allowed us to reproduce a few chapters.
The Verein Project: The Best of Intentions, a Debacle of Management chronicles the origin of the Adelsverein emigration project in Germany, dreamed up by a few young and restless noblemen in 1842, and concludes with the first wave of emigrants arriving in New Braunfels.
Indian Point Crisis describes the difficult conditions the emigrants encountered during the voyages and on arrivals in Texas between 1844 and 1846.
